Why We Must Perform Our Own COVID, Flu & Strep Tests
At UrgentCare2Go®, your safety and accurate diagnosis are our top priorities. While home tests for COVID-19, flu, and strep can be a helpful first step, we cannot use them alone to diagnose you, prescribe medications, or provide work/school notes. Our medical providers must perform their own testing so we can treat you correctly and protect you, your family, and your coworkers.

Why Home Tests Aren’t Enough
Home tests are a helpful tool — but not a final answer. They can:
Home Tests Can:
- Give a quick idea if you might be positive
- Help you decide if you should isolate before your visit
But They Cannot:
- Replace a clinical evaluation
- Guarantee accuracy
- Be used for prescriptions or work/school notes
We cannot rely on home tests because we don’t know:
- How the test was stored
- Whether the swab was done properly
- If the kit is expired
- Whether the result was read at the correct time
Our Policy on Home COVID, Flu & Strep Tests
Mobile care allows you to skip travel, avoid sick waiting rooms, and receive fast, accurate testing from the comfort of your home. With UrgentCare2Go®, providers must perform official in-person testing for:
- Diagnosis of COVID, flu, or strep
- Prescriptions (including antivirals or antibiotics)
- Work or school notes and return-to-work clearance
You may bring photos or your home test kit — but our provider will still complete medical-grade testing at your visit to ensure accuracy and compliance with medical standards.
How to Prepare for Your UrgentCare2Go
Create a Clean and Comfortable Environment:
- Ensure the area for your UrgentCare2Go service is clean and has sufficient space for our equipment and staff to move around comfortably
- Please ensure you are ready at the scheduled appointment time
Secure All Pets in an Enclosed Area:
- Of course, we love pets! However, for the safety and comfort of everyone, please ensure all pets are secured in a separate, enclosed space during the visit

At UrgentCare2Go®, we accept most major insurance plans including Medicare and Texas Medicaid using our billing company DK Physicians PLLC.

I already tested positive at home. Why do I need another test?
We understand that can be frustrating. However, we must confirm your result with a test performed by our provider to ensure accuracy and to safely prescribe medication or provide work/school notes.
Will you still see me if I only have a home test?
Absolutely. We will see you, review your symptoms, and repeat appropriate testing during your in-home visit so we can treat you safely.
Can you prescribe antibiotics for a negative home strep test?
No. We must perform our own strep test and evaluate your symptoms before prescribing antibiotics.
Can I get a work note if I bring a photo of my home test?
No. Work or school notes must be based on testing and evaluation performed by our provider during your UrgentCare2Go visit.
